Stephan Kauf OSB (born October 15, 1907 in Wangen bei Olten as Adolf Kauf ; † September 2, 1962 in Lucerne ) was a Swiss Benedictine monk . From 1947 until his death he was abbot of the Muri-Gries Abbey in Bozen ( South Tyrol ).

The son of the magician Jakob Kauf and Wilhelmine Frey graduated from the Benedictine high school in Sarnen from 1922 to 1930 . He then studied theology in Gries and at the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo in Rome , which he graduated in 1936. He made his profession in 1928 and was ordained a priest in 1933. In 1936, Kauf worked as a lecturer in theology at Muri-Gries Abbey. In 1938 he was appointed dean , and from 1941 he also served as novice master . After Bernard Kälin's resignation , Kauf was elected Abbot of Muri and Prior of Gries on October 22, 1947 . In 1960 a small hospice was set up in Muri , so that the Benedictines were present again more than a century after the dissolution of the Muri monastery . Abbot Stephan died while in hospital in Lucerne and was buried in Sarnen.
