Stephan Remmler is the 1986 debut album by the German singer, composer and producer Stephan Remmler .

Emergence

Remmler began producing his first solo album immediately after the last TV appearances of his former band Trio in June 1986. As with the last two albums with Trio, Remmler produced his self-titled debut album in a variety of recording studios, including the audio studio in Berlin , the Seestudios in Seeshaupt , the Can-Studio in Weilerswist and in the Vienna Studios in Vienna . Remmler produced all the tracks himself; The single No Stars in Athens (3-4-5 times in 1 month) was co-produced by Klaus Voormann , who also plays bass on many of the songs on the album.

The sisters Inga and Annette Humpe can be heard as guest musicians, who have taken on the background vocals in two songs. The Weilerswist men's choir and the Vienna Police Orchestra are also represented.

Music and lyrics

All songs on the album were written by Stephan Remmler. An exception is the song Imagine it goes off the light, composed by Hans Lang and Erich Meder and made famous in the interpretation of Maria Andergast and Paul Hörbiger in 1952. Remmler wrote a new, more contemporary text for this song.

Musically, the album offers a variety of styles: While the single release under a small blanket at night , a children's song is, is yes because you have get mei letter net of brass music associate. In the latter song Remmler imitates a Bavarian dialect . There are also pop songs like No Stars in Athens or sea shanties like Let me be with you again . Thematically, Remmler deals with interpersonal problems and everyday worries in his songs.

The reviews of the album were rather mixed. Christian Genzel from the music portal Allmusic describes the music on the album as repetitive and, despite the richness of style of the album, still sees clear references to the style of Remmler's earlier band Trio. The music is largely referred to as "cheesy" and the lyrics sometimes even as "stupid". Genzel, however, praises Remmler's slightly ironic vocal performance, which makes the musical excursions interesting.

At the beginning of 1987 Remmler visited the Austrian municipality of Sankt Kathrein am Offenegg , where he was made an honorary citizen of the municipality by the mayor at the time, Karl Schwaiger, “for excellent services to tourism”. Remmler had sung about the place in his song No Stars in Athens .

In Germany and Austria the album reached number 8 in the respective album charts, while the singles No Stars in Athens and Everything has an End Only the Sausage has two top 5 hits. The English version of the song Keine Sterne in Athen ( I Don't Go To USA ), which is not included on the album, reached number 1 in the Philippines .
