Schwenk was part of the Viva founding team and developed the Spreeradio in 1994 with Wim Thoelke and Peter Bosse in Berlin . There he appeared for the first time as a partner. As managing director, he developed a hit format and led the station into the top group of Berlin stations. In 2005 he sold the station to the RTL Group .

Radio Hamburg

From 2002 to 2005, Schwenk was managing director of Radio Hamburg . Under Schwenk, the station successfully switched from format radio to more self-produced word programs. With the new concept, Radio Hamburg became the market leader among Hamburg radio stations with a 30.2% audience share.

In 2007, Schwenk received additional licenses for local radio stations in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. Schwenk founded the Radio Group and in May 2008 went on air with Antenne Kaiserslautern , Antenne Bad Kreuznach , Antenne Pfalz , Antenne Landau , Radio Pirmasens , Radio Idar-Oberstein and Radio Saarbrücken . More stations are constantly being added.

further activities

In Austria, too, Schwenk was active as a consultant in setting up private radio stations, including the successful private radio station Radio 88.6 in Vienna .

As the main shareholder, he founded DasWebradio.de, an internet radio station in 2000 , which was discontinued in 2001 as a loss- making business.

In 2003, Schwenk was on the jury for the Ernst Schneider Prize in the radio category.

criticism

According to a report in the Rhein-Zeitung , it became known at the end of April 2014 that The Radio Group's stations were in financial difficulties. Employees' salaries are paid too late or not at all, there are also outstanding claims from service providers and threats of attachment by the tax office. In an interview with the Allgemeine Zeitung , Schwenk confirmed liquidity problems, but they have now been resolved. There would also be no late salary payments. The State Center for Media and Communication has taken on the reports of the radio stations in the radio group under observation and summoned swing. The investigations against Schwenk on suspicion of delaying bankruptcy were discontinued in October 2014 due to a lack of sufficient suspicion.
