Stephanie Hüllenhagen was a seamstress by profession. Like her brother Kurt Kaiser, she was a member of the SPD and an opponent of National Socialism . During the Second World War she lived in a one-room apartment at Bellermannstrasse 14 in Berlin-Gesundbrunnen .

Her acquaintances included Helene Leroi (1894–1950), a graduate in economics, whom she had met through her work with the Social Democrats. Helene Leroi came from a Hamburg Jewish family and had her two daughters brought to Great Britain on the Kindertransport before the war began . She had to do forced labor in Berlin .

When the deportation of Jews from Germany began, Stephanie Hüllenhagen decided to save at least one person from deportation. She asked Helene Leroi, who had already received the deportation order, whether she would like to come to her. Helene Leroi lived with Stephanie Hüllenhagen from January 1943 to mid-May 1945 in their apartment, using the toilet outside the apartment in the hallway. The residents of the house kept silent about the presence of Helene Leroi and did not denounce the two women.

Kurt Kaiser accompanied Helene Leroi on occasional walks; Her daughter, who studied medicine, looked after her when she was sick. Stephanie Hüllenhagen's financial means were barely enough for the two women. Contributed Fritz Baade , who had emigrated to Turkey and Helene Leroi monthly 100 Reichsmark was coming. Two neighbors supported them with food.

Helene Leroi died in Berlin in 1950. The Berlin Senate honored Stephanie Hüllenhagen in 1962 as an "unsung heroine". Until her death she lived in her small apartment on Bellermannstrasse.

In 2001 Stephanie Hüllenhagen was posthumously honored as Righteous Among the Nations . In 2003, a plaque in memory of her was put up on Bellermannstrasse 14 .
