Geographical location

Stephansberg is located in the far northwest of the Kleinlangheim municipality. The municipality of Schwarzach am Main begins further north , with the district of Stadtschwarzach closest to Stephansberg. In the east the Kleinlangheimer district Atzhausen rises . history

Stephansberg was first mentioned at the beginning of the 10th century. The name goes back to a chapel in the village, which was dedicated to the martyr Stephen . The center of Stephansberg was an estate with 900 acres of land that belonged to the Lords of Seinsheim in the Middle Ages. Stephansberg Castle was also the headquarters of the Seinsheimer for a time . This is what the later Imperial Councilor Erkinger VI called itself . von Seinsheim also "von Stephansberg".

In 1502 Siegismund von Schwarzenberg zu Hohenlandsberg sold the estate to the Margraves of Brandenburg-Ansbach . The margraves set up a so-called caste office here to manage the income from their free float in the Main Franconia region. However, the castle was burned down in 1525. The German Peasants' War destroyed the estate when the rebels set it on fire.

The Brandenburg-Ansbach property was later sold by the senior official Löb Dessauer. Now four farmers from the surrounding area received the former farm estate and the agricultural property. At the beginning of the 19th century, the remains of the estate were leveled. At that time, Stephansberg was part of the municipality of Haidt . In 1978 this was incorporated into Kleinlangheim as part of the municipal reform.

Culture and sights

Burgstall Stephansberg

For a long time there was a castle or a palace in Stephansberg. Today no remains of this complex can be seen, but the underground remains of the castle are classified as a ground monument by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation . The castle presented itself as a stately building with a moat and a large castle courtyard. This was the seat of the Schwarzenberg, later margravial office of Stephansberg. The complex was probably already softened in the 17th century and was now only the seat of the so-called official farmers.

Say

For a long time, people told each other about Stephansberg that the place had belonged to three nuns before the Lords of Schwarzenberg . Perhaps the legend alludes to the proximity to Münsterschwarzach Abbey , because a women's monastery existed here until the 9th century. The three nuns also owned large forests in the area. Later the property of the three nuns fell into disrepair and the property was divided among the neighboring villages. The forest was cleared and turned into fields.
