Stephen Mark Darby (born October 6, 1988 in Liverpool ) is a former English football player who was most recently under contract with Bolton Wanderers . He was mostly used as a right-back.
Career
society
Darby learned to play football as a defender as a youth at Liverpool FC . In 2006 and 2007 he won the FA Youth Cup with the Reds youth team . In the finals in 2006, in which Darby ran up as captain of the team, Manchester City was defeated and its city rivals Manchester United in the following year . He made his debut for the professional team on November 12, 2008 when he was substituted on in the Carling Cup game against Tottenham Hotspur .
He played his first UEFA Champions League game on December 9, 2008, when he was called up for Álvaro Arbeloa in the game against PSV Eindhoven . He made his debut in the Premier League on January 20, 2010 , when he came on for Philipp Degen in the 90th minute of the home game against Tottenham .
On March 11, 2010 his loan to the third division club Swindon Town until the end of the season was announced. Two days later Darby played his first game for Swindon Town in the away game at Brighton & Hove Albion , when he played the entire game. After he was only used in one Europa League game for Liverpool in the 2010/11 season , he was loaned out again in November 2010, now to third division Notts County . He stayed there until the end of the season, except for a short break in early January 2011. On July 6, 2011, he moved to Rochdale AFC on loan .
He joined Bolton Wanderers in 2017 through Bradford City . There, on September 18, 2018, at the age of 29, he announced his retirement due to a motor neuron disease .
