Steuart Pincombe is an American cellist and gambist .

Pincombe was a cellist in the Springfield Symphony Orchestra and played the electric cello in the experimental music ensemble Humours before studying modern cello, baroque cello and viol with Darrett Adkins and Catharina Meints at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music . He then performed with various symphony orchestras and as a chamber musician with violinist Mark Peskanov , violist Peter Slowik , pianist Jeffrey Biegel , organist Matti Pesonen and guitarist Dušan Bogdanović . In summer 2008 he attended courses from Jean-Guihen Queyras in Freiburg and gave concerts in Germany, Poland and Austria.

As an interpreter of new music, he performed Alfred Schnittke's Dialogue for cello and seven instruments and Luciano Berio's Il Ritorno degli Snovidenia for cello and thirty instruments with the Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble , made recordings for the Centaur label and went on concert tours as a member of the Credo Trio . In the field of early music, he has worked with cellist and viol player Kenneth Slowik and oboist Alex Klein , the Ensemble Harmonious Blacksmith and the Oberlin Baroque Ensemble and has performed at Oberlin's Baroque Performance Institute , the Boston Early Music Festival , the Robert Conant's Festival of Baroque Music and the Attersee Festival Week in Seewalchen. With Christina Giuca and David Breitman he played all works for cello and piano by Ludwig van Beethoven on historical instruments , and he also played compositions for viol solo by Georg Philipp Telemann , Johannes Schenck and Carl Friedrich Abel .

As a teacher, Pincombe has given technical and master classes at Biola University , Gordon College , the University of California , and the Westchester Conservatory and has given guest lectures at Missouri State University , Oral Roberts University and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music .
