Stephen "Steve" Burtenshaw (born November 23, 1935 in Hove ) is a former English football player and football coach.

life and career

Burtenshaw played at one club, Brighton & Hove Albion , throughout his career . After retiring in 1966, he became an assistant coach at the club. In 1971 he joined Arsenal . At the Gunners he was part of the coaching team with head coach Don Howe . In 1973 he accepted an offer from Sheffield Wednesday and stayed in Sheffield for two years . In January 1977 he was three games interim head coach at Everton FC . A year later he took over the Queens Park Rangers for a year. After his career with the Rangers, he returned to the Gunners in 1979 and was even head coach from March to May 1986 when Don Howe resigned. Burtenshaw was involved in the Lydersen and John Jensen bribes scandal and was fined £ 10,000 by the Football Association at the time. After his coaching career, he was still a scout for the Queens Park Rangers and Manchester City .
