Steven de Jongh (born November 25, 1973 in Alkmaar ) is a former Dutch cyclist and sporting director of a cycling team .

Athletic career

Steven de Jongh turned pro at TVM-Farm Frites in 1996 . He drove there for four years and then at Rabobank for six years before moving to Quick Step in 2006 . The sprinter's successes include stage wins at the Tour of Sweden , the Étoile de Bessèges , the Tour of the Netherlands , Tirreno – Adriatico and the Three Days of De Panne . The Dutchman was just as strong on cobblestones.

He won the spring classics E3 from Harelbeke , Veenendaal-Veenendaal , Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne and Nokere-Koerse .

Professional

In the fall of 2009, de Jongh announced the end of his career as an active professional. From then on, he served until the end of 2012 as sports director of the newly formed British ProTour - Team Sky . After he admitted on his website that he had consumed doping substances during his active time , he left Team Sky. For the 2013 season, de Jongh hired the Saxo-Tinkoff team. After the dissolution of this team in 2106, he went to Trek-Segafredo with Alberto Contador .

On October 15, 2018, Steven de Jongh was reported missing on the Costa Brava near Girona : he had set off on a bike tour in the morning and did not return; his Strava recording was broken. After a five-hour search, he was found unconscious and injured in a ravine by a police helicopter and was taken to a hospital. A severe concussion was found there.
