Stevie stiletto

Stevie Ray Stiletto (* 1956 in Chelsea , Massachusetts as Ray McKelvey , † March 23, 2013 in Jacksonville , Florida ) was an American punk singer. His life's work is the band Stevie Stiletto and the Switchblades , which he founded and largely named after him .

Life

At the age of three, Stiletto and his family moved from Chelsea to Jacksonville. In junior high school , under the influence of the Beatles , he and childhood friend Frank Phillips stole their sister's white boots and painted them black to look similar to the British band. Together they founded the band The Invaders with Stiletto as drummer and singer. In high school , he discovered Alice Cooper and decided to emulate Cooper. In 1974 he graduated from school and joined cover bands, and it wasn't until 1983 that he founded his own punk band Stevie Stiletto and the Switchblades .

His band split u. a. with the Ramones , the Dead Kennedys , Motörhead , Megadeth , the Bad Brains , Iggy Pop , GG Allin and the Descendents the stage. However, there was no lasting success. In the meantime, he, and with it his band, lived in San Francisco , where, due to the proximity to the relevant actors in the scene, there was more chance of success than in Jacksonville. However, the band sabotaged itself during this time. a. due to heroin and alcohol addiction due to stilettos. Because of a non-sterilized needle, according to Stiletto that of a tattoo artist and not a heroin needle, he contracted hepatitis C ; later cirrhosis of the liver followed due to his alcoholism.

In 2009 the documentary "My Life is Great: The Stevie Stiletto Story" was released through Stiletto, for which Kevin Dunn, a professor of political science at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva , New York , was responsible. At the time, 42-year-old Dunn had bought stilettos tapes in Edge City as a teenager and watched the shows at Cedar Hills Armory and 730 Club .

His band's third album, "American Asshole", was also released in Germany in 1996 via S&F Entertainment .

Stiletto had a daughter with his divorced wife.
