Stig-Are Eriksen was part of the Norwegian national team in the second half of the 1990s. First it was used in national races and at European level. At the 1997 European Biathlon Championships in Windischgarsten , he won the bronze medal in relay races with Kjetil Sæter , Lars-Sigve Oftedal and Kjell Ove Oftedal . A year later , the Norwegian was even able to win silver behind the relay from Germany with Sæter, Kim Skutbergsveen and Bård Mjølne in Minsk . In the World Cup , Eriksen was only used in his last active season 1999/2000 , in which he was used at the first to the sixth World Cup station. He could not achieve points in his individual races. The best result was a 31st place in a pursuit race in Oberhof . With the Norwegian relay he was able to reach the podium in his last World Cup race in Antholz at the side of Halvard Hanevold , Egil Gjelland and Sylfest Glimsdal as the final runner in third place.
Eriksen was extremely successful nationally, although he never won a medal in an individual race. With the relay and the team from Troms , to which, among other things, Terje Aune , Bjørn Tore Berntsen and Tor Espen Kristiansen often belonged, among other things . He won the season title in 1995, 1996 and 1999, and won silver in 1998. He was even more successful with the team. For the first time he became champions here in 1991, further titles were added in 1992 and 1995. Eriksen was runner-up with the team in 1996 and 1997, and third in 1994.
