Stormlord is an Italian metal band that was formed in 1991. They play a mix of power , black and extreme metal .

Band history

The band was formed in 1991 as a cover band, and the first demo was recorded a year later . After the demo was released, Andrea Cacciotti joined the band as the second guitarist. In 1993 the demo Black Knight was recorded. A year later, Claudio Di Carlo left the band and was replaced by Dario Maurizi. Drummer Riccardo Montanari left the band, the vacated position was taken over by Gabriele Valerio.

In 1995 Dario Maurizi and Gabriele Valerio left the band. Marcello Baragona joined as the new drummer and the former drummer Riccardo Montanari, who had meanwhile switched to guitar, helped out for the second guitar. Furthermore, the keyboardist Fabrizio Cariani was accepted into the band. At the end of the year, the second guitarist Andrea Cacciotti left the band.

The next year the EP Under The Sign of the Sword was recorded, using epic choirs and female vocals. The EP marked the change in style from Death Metal to a sound dominated by Black Metal. The vacated bass position was taken over by Fabban from Funeral Oration as a session member. The positions on the guitars were taken over by Dux Tenebrarum and Pierangelo Giglioni.

The band embarked on a small tour of Italy in 1997, performing at the Italian Gods of Metal festival with bands such as Overkill , Death SS and Domine . Dux Tenebrarum left the band and they took up a promo with just one guitarist , which they sent to several labels . The German label Last Episode made the best offer and they signed. The session bassist Fabban left the band to concentrate on his main group Aborym and Francesco Bucci stepped in for him.

Due to the good quality of the promo CD, Last Episode released it as a mini CD under the name Where My Spirit Forever Shall Be . During that time, Stormlord toured Europe as a support band for headliners like Atrocity and Sacred Steel . In January 1999 they started recording in the Temple of Noise studio , which they finished after almost four months. In August the album was released under the name Supreme Art of War and they went on a European tour with their new keyboardist Simone Scazzocchio, where they played with Graveworm , Mystic Circle and Suidakra . In 2000 the band recorded the EP The Curse of Medusa , which was released by Scarlet Records . They also played some concerts and festivals in Italy with Domine and Vision Divine . In 2001 the band recorded the album At the Gates of Utopia and played concerts with Ancient and Thyrane .

In 2002 Gianpaolo Caprino joined the band and the band played a few concerts with Arch Enemy , Soulfly and Destruction . On June 28th, they played at A Summer Day in Hell , one of the biggest open-air festivals, where Blind Guardian , Annihilator , Type O Negative , Opeth , Virgin Steele and Lacuna Coil played among others . In April 2003 the next album was released with The Gorgon Cult . In June Stormlord played together at Gods of Metal u. a. with Motörhead , Sodom , Alice Cooper , Twisted Sister and Judas Priest . In March 2005 the band played some concerts with Necrodeath .

With keyboardist Luca Bellanova, who replaced the resigned Simone Scazzocchio, they went on tour overseas for the first time in 2006 for the band's 15th anniversary, three dates were played in Canada .

At the beginning of March, the guitarist Pierangelo Giglioni left the band in 2010 and was replaced by Andrea Angelini. On May 24, 2019, the sixth studio album Far , with which Stormlord returned to Scarlet Records , was released. Giuseppe Orlando from Novembre and keyboardist Riccardo Studer were responsible for the production.
