Strathcarron ( Scottish Gaelic : Strath Carrann ) is a small town in the Highland Council Area in Scotland . It is located about two kilometers inland from the eastern end of Loch Carron , an inlet on the west coast, between the River Carron and its tributary, the River Taodail .
The place essentially consists of the train station on the Kyle of Lochalsh Line with a post office , a small shop, the Strathcarron Hotel and some farms and cottages. There is also a small tourist information office in the train station . The railway line is crossed in Strathcarron by the A890 , from which the A896 branches off about two kilometers north in the direction of Applecross and Shieldaig . The place thus represents a regionally important traffic junction. The towns north and west of Applecross and Loch Torridon are served by on- call buses from the train station .
