Strawberry is a census-designated place and unincorporated part of Mill Valley in California with 5393 inhabitants (as of 2010). It shares the school district and zip code with Mill Valley, and is separated from it by Highway 101 . North passes California State Route 131 in a west-east direction . Strawberry is about 10 miles north of San Francisco and is surrounded to the south by Richardson Bay and Pickleweed Inlet . Most of the town's residents are commuters who work in the metropolitan San Francisco Bay Area . Strawberry became internationally known when it was discussed as a possible location for the headquarters of the United Nations in 1946 .

The United States Census 2010 , a census on April 1, 2010, determined 5393 residents. The largest group of the population are whites with a share of 76.1%. There are also 10.9% Asians , 6.5% Hispanics or Latinos , 4.3% mixed race and 2.1% African American .
These are distributed over 2510 households and 1307 families. 25.5% of the households have children under the age of 18. 41.0% of households consist of married couples of different sexes, 8.0% consist of single women and 3.1% of single men. 4.6% of households consist of unmarried couples of different sex and 0.8% of same-sex couples.

As a non-incorporated census-designated place , most of Strawberry's administrative tasks are taken over by Marin County . Strawberry is part of the county's 3rd Supervisorial District and is represented by Supervisor Kathrin Sears.
Some of the services - such as garbage collection, the collection of recycling materials and the maintenance of leisure facilities - are taken over by the Strawberry Recreation District , a kind of association. The boundaries of this special-purpose district do not exactly correspond to those of the census-designated places Strawberry.
Strawberry has the same zip code (94941) as Mill Valley ; Addresses in Strawberry are therefore given as "Mill Valley". Several attempts to incorporate Strawberry into Tiburon were rejected by the residents of Strawberry by vote.
