Stuart "Stu" block (* 26. November 1977 ) is a Canadian metal - singer and member of the band Iced Earth .

biography

After singing songs by U2 and later Iron Maiden and Judas Priest in a cover band in high school , Block began his musical career in 1998 in various rock and metal bands from the Vancouver area . In 2005 he joined the band Into Eternity and went on tour with them. For the band, he moved from Vancouver to Regina in the province of Saskatchewan and worked in the logistics and marketing industry. With Into Eternity he recorded two studio albums in the following years. In early 2011, Block was introduced as the new vocalist of Iced Earth and thus successor to Matthew Barlow . The first Iced Earth album with his participation, Dystopia , was released on October 14, 2011. Block worked on ten songs on the album with band founder Jon Schaffer , developed vocal lines and wrote lyrics . In 2013 Stu Block was replaced at Into Eternity by Amanda Kiernan, who had previously represented him on tours.

style

Block refers to the singers Bruce Dickinson , Rob Halford , Matthew Barlow , Tim Owens , Devin Townsend , Jari Mänenpää , George Fisher , Russell Allen and Jørn Lande as influences . His vocal style on the new Iced Earth album Dystopia is multi-layered and in the middle notes is reminiscent of his predecessor Matthew Barlow, while his higher screams are reminiscent of Rob Halford and Tim Owens.
