Stuart J. Byrne
Stuart James Byrne (born October 26, 1913 in St. Paul , Minnesota - † September 23, 2011 in Ojai , California ) was an American writer and screenwriter .
Life
Byrne moved to California with his family when he was twelve years old. Already at this time he was interested in science fiction and was actively involved in astronomy . He received at the beginning of the 1930s University of California, Los Angeles the Master of Arts and published in 1935 his first science fiction story, Music of the Spheres , in the magazine Amazing Stories . Other stories appeared in Science Stories , Imagination Magazine and Other Worlds Magazine over the next two decades . Under his own name and the pseudonyms Rothayne Amare , John Bloodstone , Howard Dare and the collective pseudonym Marx Kaye , Byrne wrote mainly short stories, but also novels. His most famous character is that of "Michael Flanagan", the hero of three stories that he published as John Bloodstone. A Tarzan story by Byrnes, written in 1955, could never be published due to the lack of consent from Edgar Rice Burroughs ' heirs . In the 1970s he translated some Perry Rhodan novels into English.
From 1959, Byrne was hired as a screenwriter for the television series Men into Space . He also wrote the script for the spaghetti western Die Höllenhunde (1971) and for the 1972 science fiction film Hydra Lost in Galaxy 4 .
Byrne had been married since the 1930s and had two children.
