Stuart Townend

Stuart Townend (actually Henry Stewart Townend; born April 24, 1909 in Shropshire , † October 26, 2002 in London ) was a British athlete , officer and headmaster.

The middle-distance runner and sprinter was sixth over 880 yards at the British Empire Games in Hamilton in 1930 and won the English 4-by-440-yard relay.

From 1931 to 1947 he served in the British Army , most recently with the rank of lieutenant colonel . At the Olympic Games in London in 1948 , he organized the accommodation for the athletes, for which he was named Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1949 . In the British general election in 1950 , he ran unsuccessfully for the Liberal Party .

In 1951 he founded the Hill House School in London, a private preschool and elementary school , which he ran until his death. Her most famous student was Prince Charles , who visited her for nine months in 1956 and 1957.
