tasks

Study seminars are institutions of the federal states with tasks in teacher training . Teacher training is two-phase in Germany. The first phase with academic studies in two subjects takes place at universities and leads to a Master of Education in most federal states . The second phase, the preparatory service, which usually lasts 18 months, takes place in the study seminars and ends with a state examination qualifying for a career .

In addition to the two-phase nature, the anchoring of the preparatory service in the area is an essential feature. Study seminars secure the connection from the universities to the schools, they ensure innovation and knowledge transfer and they train young professionals at the schools in a region.

At certain times, the contribution to the educational infrastructure is of particular importance. During the teacher shortage phase of the 1970s, the Leer study seminar succeeded in attracting a little more than half of the graduates for a position at a school in the region.

profile

The Leer study seminar maintains the connection between the teacher training phases, on the one hand, through joint model projects and through personnel exchanges, in particular with the University of Oldenburg and the University of Osnabrück , and , on the other hand, through an advanced training association with the Regional Pedagogical Center Aurich of the East Frisian Landscape for the career entry phase.

With the European dimension, the institution has included an “essential” in its self-image in order to promote the European idea in a prominent way. It is dedicated to the topic of Europe on the one hand through special promotion of communicative and intercultural competence in foreign languages, on the other hand through European conferences in neighboring countries with the focus on schools in Europe and further through Dutch-German cooperation projects.
