The Teletta-Groß-Gymnasium (TGG) is a high school in the city of Leer . The school is attended by around 1000 students. The district of Leer is responsible for the grammar school . In addition to the TGG, there is the Ubbo-Emmius-Gymnasium and the vocational high schools at the vocational schools (BBS) in Leer .

history

A parents' initiative founded the school in 1849 as a private secondary school for daughters . The initiator, Teletta Groß from Leer, campaigned - in the spirit of the liberal awakening - for an equal education for young women in Leer and the surrounding area.

In 1877 the city of Leer took over the educational institution, which has been a public school ever since. Five years later, the city had its first school built. In 1909 the Oberlyzeum was founded in Leer.

In 1949 the buildings were renovated . In the same year it was named Teletta-Groß-Schule . In 1969 the school received a completely new building. In 1969, the now co-educational school was renamed Teletta-Groß-Gymnasium , a name that is often abbreviated as TGG.

Coeducation was introduced in 1970 and the construction of a three-field sports hall with sports grounds began in 1973. The district of Leer took over the sponsorship in 1976.

In 1999 the TGG celebrated its 150th anniversary. In 2001, the construction of a new wing of the building began, which connected the buildings in Hajo-Unken-Strasse with the other school buildings. The new entrance area was also created. After two years of construction, the building was ceremoniously handed over to its destination on August 28, 2003. Another major renovation was the renovation of the auditorium , which was completed in July 2008. In the course of the renovation, the auditorium was also equipped with new lighting and stage technology, as well as new seating.

In 2013, the complete renovation of the E-building began, which since 2014 has housed the school library, a lounge for the upper level and a terrace-shaped relaxation room for the middle level.

today

The grammar school is a European school , a member of the gifted support association of the district of Leer and a partner school of the German Football Association . In addition, she was awarded the MINT-EC status, which stands for a pronounced natural science branch. Because of this orientation, the TGG often takes part in competitions such as Jugend forscht or tournaments with the Lego NXT robots.

The TGG works closely with the Ubbo-Emmius-Gymnasium Leer , which is in the immediate vicinity. This cooperation relates particularly to the courses offered by grammar schools in the upper level. This collaboration makes it possible to also offer profiles that only a few students choose (for example a computer science profile). The upper levels of the grammar schools are partly taught in a shared building. With these two high schools and their high number of students, Leer stands out from the series of high schools in Lower Saxony due to an extraordinarily wide range of educational opportunities .

The Teletta-Groß-Gymnasium offers several specializations and profiles for interested students in lower secondary education . On the one hand, students can from the fifth grade in Bläserklassen or from the seventh grade (since new G9 ) in so-called MINT - , waxed - and sports sections are taught. In contrast to the standard timetable, the focus here is on the respective profiles and additional lessons are offered.

In addition to the compulsory English lessons (from grade 5), the TGG also offers three other foreign languages: French, Latin and Dutch (each from grade 6). From the eleventh grade onwards, the introductory phase to upper secondary level begins for all students, while grades twelve and thirteen are the qualification phase for the Abitur with an individual focus.

The Teletta-Groß-Gymnasium relies on extensive social skills training and has developed a prevention concept. In this way, the students in different years are made aware of the dangers of the Internet and in connection with alcohol and other drugs . B. prepared for life after graduation through professional orientation and application training. In year 5 there are also multimedia lessons that teach how to use the PC and the Internet. There are four computer rooms and a few laptops for this purpose. Many classrooms are also equipped with projectors, document cameras and computers.

The TGG is also active in local history and has already implemented projects such as the exhibition "Escape and Expulsion to East Friesland" with the help of the Heimatmuseum Leer or the city tour "A walk through the almost forgotten Leer"

The TGG conducts exchanges with the following schools:
