Regulation text (excerpt)
- § 3 purpose of protection
The protection purpose is the preservation and protection of the area with its characteristic components of individual trees, especially old oaks, bushes and groups of trees, the border hornbeam hedge, the undisturbed woodland along the creek and the blades as well as the open grasslands and meadows as an area close to the city of particular diversity and beauty, habitat for some rare plant and animal species with their special demands on the natural balance, culturally and historically significant area of an old form of land use.
description
For centuries the oak grove served as pasture for pigs , sheep and foals . The oaks provided shade and the acorns served as a source of food. About 200 of the mighty trees are there in a park-like landscape. The oldest among them are 300 to 400 years old and have trunks 4 to 6 meters in circumference.
Visitor pressure, tread load, removal of species, insufficient grazing and nutrient input make maintenance measures necessary in order to maintain the unique character as a recreation area and as a habitat for plants and animals that have become rare. The maintenance measures prevent a species shift away from the originally species-rich pasture vegetation to species-poor park lawns.
Animal and plant species
In lean lawn of oak wood is endangered animals and plants found as wild bees and Heide grasshoppers ( Stenobothrus lineatus ), the domestic species of orchids Helmet Orchid ( orchis militaris ) and bee orchid ( Ophrys apifera ), further Geschlitztblättriger dandelion ( Taraxacum lacistophyllum ) and plum colored dandelion ( Taraxacum bellicum ) and the willow-pointer thorny restorer ( Ononis spinosa ).
