The Subansiri is a right tributary of the Brahmaputra in the Tibet Autonomous Region and in the Indian states of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam .

The Subansiri rises in Cona County on the Tibetan side - north of the main ridge of the Assam Himalayas . It is fed by the glaciers north of Nyegi Kangsang . The Subansiri initially flows a short distance to the northwest, but then turns to the northeast and east. It crosses the southern part of the Lhünzê district . The river then cuts through the main Himalayan ridge and crosses the border with India. After another 90 kilometers, the river changes its direction of flow to the south. At Daporijo , the district capital of Upper Subansiri , the Sigin flows into the Subansiri from the right. Further downstream, the Kamla meets the Subansiri, also from the west. The Subansiri crosses the border to the southern state of Assam. Immediately thereafter is the Lower Subansiri Dam, which is currently under construction . On the lower reaches are the districts of Dhemaji and Lakhimpur . The district capital of North Lakhimpur is located on the riverside . The Subansiri takes in the Dikrong tributary from the right before it flows into the Brahmaputra. The Subansiri has a length of 442 km. Its catchment area covers 32,640 km².
