The Surxondaryo (Cyrillic Сурхондарё even Surkhandarya or Surkhandarya ) is a right tributary of the Amu Darya in Uzbekistan .

The river arises at the confluence of its two source rivers Tupalangdarja (Toʻpatangdaryo) and Karatag (Qoratagʻ) near the border with Tajikistan, about 50 kilometers west of the Tajik capital Dushanbe . The source rivers arise in the southern slopes of the Hissar Mountains . It flows in a south-southwest direction to Termiz , where it flows into the Amudaryo after 175 kilometers across from the border between Uzbekistan and Afghanistan . Its catchment area of 13,500 km² is in the Tajik region of Nohijahoi tobei dschumhurij and in the Uzbek province of Surxondaryo , which was named after the river.
The reservoir Janubiy Surxon Suv Ombori ( southern Surxondaryo reservoir ) is located on the middle course above the city of Qumqoʻrgʻon .
Hydrological data
Between 1961 and 1990 the Surxondaryo source river Karatag on the Tajik-Uzbek border carried an average of 34 cubic meters of water per second. At Manguzar, near Termiz, the Surxondaryo carries 50 m³ / s. The discharge coefficient is 116 millimeters per year.
