M. Susan Montgomery (born April 2, 1943 in Lansing , Michigan ) is an American mathematician .

Live and act

Susan Montgomery studied mathematics and received her Bachelor of Arts (summa cum laude) from the University of Michigan in May 1965 and her Master of Science from the University of Chicago in June 1966 . In August 1969, she received her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. PhD . Your doctoral supervisor was Israel Herstein . She was then from 1969 to 1970 Assistant Professor at DePaul University . She has been at the University of Southern California since 1970 , where she was an Assistant Professor (1970–1975) and Associate Professor (1975–1982) and has been a professor since 1982. From 1996 to 1999 she headed the Mathematics Department. She was visiting scholar at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1973), University of Chicago (1977), University of Leeds (1977, 1981), University of California, San Diego (1985), Mathematical Sciences Research Institute (1985, 1993, 1999– 2000), University of Wisconsin – Madison (1985), University of New South Wales (1988), Ludwig Maximilians University Munich (1996) and Mittag-Leffler Institute (2004).

Montgomery studied the group effect on rings . Later she mainly worked in the field of non-commutative algebras, in particular on Hopf algebras , their structures and representations and their effects on other algebras. Montgomery received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1984 and the Albert S. Raubenheimer Distinguished Faculty Award from the University of Southern California in 1986. In 2011 she was allowed to hold the Noether Lecture . She is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society and the Association for Women in Mathematics.

Montgomery is married and has three step-sons.
