Susanne Kurz (born April 2, 1956 in Salzburg , until August 17, 2012 Susanne Neuwirth ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and HTL teacher. Kurz was a member of the Federal Council from 2004 to 2018 and its President in the second half of 2011. Before and after that, she held the office of Vice President of the Federal Council. She was chairman of the judiciary committee and deputy. Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee.

education and profession

Kurz attended elementary school in the Adnet community between 1962 and 1966 and then continued her education at the federal high school in Hallein . After graduating from high school with high school diploma, she studied English and German at the University of Salzburg between 1974 and 1984 and graduated in 1984 with the academic degree Mag. Phil. from. Kurz then worked from 1985 to 1987 as an employee of the Frauennotruf association in Salzburg and then between 1988 and 1991 as a teacher at the Academic Gymnasium in Salzburg. After project work in 1991 and 1992 as well as in the family counseling of the Salzburger Kinderfreunde, she was head of the family counseling center of the association "VIELE" in Salzburg between 1993 and 1994. In 1998 she took on a position as professor for German and English at the technical college in Hallein. Since 2007, she has also been the gender officer of the Salzburg State School Council. She has been retired in both areas since 2016. In 2015 she was a limited partner of KEM - Kurz Education & Marketing KG and since January 2017 she has been managing director of GEVE (Golden Earth Vision Energy GmbH).

politics

In 1994, Kurz took over the office of district women chairperson until 2016 and between 1994 and 2005 the office of deputy district party chairperson of the SPÖ city of Salzburg. She acted within the party from 1987 as a member of the state party board and was elected in 1995 as a member of the state party presidium of the Salzburg SPÖ. She still belongs to this as a co-opted member. In addition, from 1987 to 2004 she was a councilor in the city of Salzburg and between 1996 and 2004 she was the club chairman of the SPÖ in the local council.

Kurz was sworn in as Federal Councilor on April 28, 2004 and held the office of Vice-President of the Federal Council from January 1, 2008 to June 30, 2011. She then assumed the office of President from July 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011 and was re-elected Vice President on January 1, 2012 until the end of 2014.

At the beginning of March 2018, she resigned her Federal Council mandate, followed by Michael Wanner .
