Susanne Stumpenhusen

Susanne Stumpenhusen (* 1955 in Calberlah ) is a former German trade union official . Most recently she was the district manager of the Berlin-Brandenburg district of the United Service Union (ver.di).

From 1974 Stumpenhusen studied sociology at the Free University of Berlin . After graduating, she began a socio-educational and sociological activity in the Spandau district office of Berlin, in the field of political education for youth development .

Before working as a full-time functionary , she held numerous voluntary activities in the ÖTV and the DGB . In 1989 she became a research assistant at the TU Berlin and worked in the vocational school project as a field of union youth work .

In February and March 1990, Stumpenhusen completed a solidarity assignment in Masaya (Nicaragua) in coordination with the local public sector union (women).

In the same year she became a union secretary at ÖTV Berlin and managing director of the science and research department . Then she also took over the department of works and staff councils . In 1994 she became managing director for the area of ​​countries in the ÖTV Berlin and was elected to the Berlin ÖTV district management in 1996. Just two years later, Stumpenhusen followed Kurt Lange and became chairwoman of the ÖTV Berlin trade union.

From December 1999 she was a member of the "founding organization ver.di" and in 2001, after ver.di was founded, she was elected head of the ver.di district in Berlin-Brandenburg. It was not until February 2019 that she was replaced by Frank Wolf because she did not stand for re-election. This makes her the longest-serving union leader at state level in Germany. Stumpenhusen is single and the mother of a son born in 1994.
