Suuremõisa (German: Magnushof , Swedish: Magnushov or Hovet , Estonian Swedish : Storhoe ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Vormsi ( Vormsi vald ) in Lääne County . The place is located in the southwest of the fourth largest Estonian island Vormsi (German Worms , Swedish Ormsö ).

Description and history

The village has 19 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2011). Lake Prestviik is east of the village . It has a shore length of 3.8 kilometers.

The origins of the place lie in Bussby, which no longer exists as a separate village. A courtyard location was separated from the village in 1604 . At that time the farm was owned by a certain Magnus Brümmer.

In the 1620s the De la Gardie family bought the farm. Bussby Farm was named Magnushof after Magnus De la Gardie from 1625 . The direct Estonian translation Suuremõisa is derived from this.

In 1691 the estate fell into the hands of the Swedish crown through reduction.

From 1748 to 1889 the farm was owned by the noble Baltic German family Stackelberg . The two-story mansion was built in the 19th century. The utility rooms were on the ground floor. The high first floor was used for representative purposes. A dome tower above the main entrance was characteristic. The manor house was redesigned in the second half of the 19th century in the style of historicism . Numerous outbuildings were built.

In 1889 they sold the entire island of Vormsi as crown property to the Russian state. From 1894 a girls' sanatorium was housed in the building. In the 1920s and 1930s the house was empty and deteriorated. Today only the ruins of the former manor buildings remain.
