Svein Sundsbø

Svein Sundsbø (born July 3, 1943 in Lindås , Fylke Hordaland ) is a Norwegian economic manager and politician of the Senterpartiet , who was Secretary General of the Senterpartie (SP) from 1976 to 1984 and Minister of Agriculture in the government of Prime Minister Kåre Willoch between 1985 and 1986 .

Life

Agronomist, youth functionary and local politician

Sundsbø, son of the farmer Birger Sundsbø and his wife Marta Morthen, began training at the agricultural school in Akershus after attending school , which he completed in 1964. A subsequent study of agricultural sciences at the Norwegian Agricultural College (Norges landbrukshøgskole) in Ås he finished in 1969. During his studies, he became involved in 1968 as chairman of the student union in Ås.

He then worked from 1969 to 1974 on a research grant as a research assistant at the Agricultural Economics Institute NLI (Norges landbruksøkonomiske institutt) and then from 1974 to 1976 as a researcher.

During his employment there he also began his political engagement and in 1971, as successor to Asbjørn Ringen, became chairman of the youth association of Senterpartiet SUL (Senterungdommens Landsforbund) and held this position until he was replaced by Harald Berggrav in 1973 October 16, 1973 also Personal Secretary of Agriculture Minister Einar Moxnes .

In 1976 Sundsbø became general secretary of the Senterpartiet. He remained in this role for eight years until he was replaced by John Dale in 1984.

Sundsbø was personal advisor to Transport Minister Johan J. Jakobsen from 1984 to 1985 , who was also chairman of the Senterpartiet between 1979 and 1991. During a cabinet reshuffle on October 3, 1985, he was appointed by Prime Minister Kåre Willoch to succeed his party friend Finn T. Isaksen as Minister of Agriculture (Landbruksminister) in his cabinet and held this ministerial office until the end of Willoch's term of office on May 9, 1986.

After leaving the government, Sundsbø acted as director between 1986 and 1988 and then as managing director of the Norwegian Agricultural Research Council (Norges landbruksvitenskapelige forskningsråd) from 1988 to 1992 , before becoming the first managing director of the newly established Norwegian Research Council (Norges Forskningsråd ) was.
