Sven Petke 2016

Sven Petke (born November 28, 1967 in Wilhelm-Pieck-Stadt Guben ) is a German politician ( CDU ). He was a member of the state parliament in Brandenburg and works as the head of the Bosnia-Herzegovina office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung .

Life and work

After attending the polytechnic high school , Petke completed vocational training with a high school diploma as a maintenance mechanic at the VEB Chemiefaserwerk Guben , which he completed in 1987. From 1990 he was one of the first East Germans to study at the University of Applied Sciences for Public Administration in North Rhine-Westphalia , the Brandenburg “sponsor country”. He graduated from the University of Applied Sciences in 1993 with a degree in administrative management and then worked in the Ministry of the Interior of the State of Brandenburg, most recently at the Office for the Protection of the Constitution .

From June 2014 to the beginning of 2015, Petke was director of business development in Eastern Europe for Bombardier Transportation GmbH. The compatibility of this well-paid part-time job with Petke's mandate was controversial. Petke gave up this activity only a few months after it had turned down an offer from Bombardier to devote himself exclusively to his work and to give up politics. In August 2018, Petke finally gave up the parliamentary mandate in order to reorient himself professionally. He is now head of the Bosnia-Herzegovina office of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung.

Petke is Protestant . Since 2003 he has been married to the former State Secretary and member of the Bundestag of the CDU Katherina Reiche . The couple has three children and lives in Luckenwalde , Frankenfelde district.

politics

Political party

Petke has been a member of the CDU since 1995. From 2001 to 2004 and from 2007 to 2011 he was deputy chairman of the CDU Brandenburg. In 2004 he became General Secretary of the CDU Brandenburg. After he and the then CDU state manager Rico Nelte were accused in 2006 of having monitored the incoming e-mails for CDU state board members without their knowledge and in some cases also withheld them and of having monitored the reading behavior of around 2,800 newsletter subscribers, Petke came under pressure of the CDU state chairman Jörg Schönbohm returned on September 15, 2006 as state secretary general. In the case of the alleged email surveillance, however , the investigation was discontinued due to a lack of sufficient suspicion . Also with regard to the newsletter evaluation, the fine proceedings against Petke and Nelte were discontinued due to a "very open" evidence and the unpredictable duration of the process. Conversely, the Internet service provider of the CDU, who had triggered the affair with his testimony, was acquitted of the charge of forgery, the false affidavit and the defamation. When the then CDU state chairman Jörg Schönbohm no longer ran for this office in 2006, Petke announced his application to chair the state CDU. In the election on January 27, 2007, he was defeated by 110 to 112 votes to his opponent Ulrich Junghanns , who had been supported by Schönbohm. Petke then ran for one of the four deputy posts and was elected with 58% of the vote. In the fall of 2011, Petke did not run for office again.

Until 2011, Petke also headed the basic program commission of the Brandenburg CDU.

MP

Since September 1999 Petke was a member of the Brandenburg State Parliament . In November 2004 he became Chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Home Affairs. Until 2011, he was deputy parliamentary group chairman and domestic and sports policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group in Brandenburg. In November 2011, he no longer ran for these positions. Petke was the deputy chairman of the commission of inquiry "Local and state administration - citizen-oriented, effective and future-proof - Brandenburg 2020" of the state parliament. On October 31, 2018, he resigned from his parliamentary mandate for professional reasons. Laura Lazarus replaced him on November 5, 2018 .

In 2007, Petke paid back approx. EUR 1000 to the state parliament administration, which he had received as a reimbursement of rent for a parliamentary office in Potsdam-Drewitz. Petke had received the amount on his application as a reimbursement of rent for a parliamentary office in Potsdam-Drewitz, although it was "not externally recognizable" as such. In this context, Petke successfully pushed through a reply in the Bild newspaper. The picture editors agreed with Petke.

In 2016, Petke attracted nationwide media attention when he appeared at a state parliament meeting with a DFB fan jersey by Jérôme Boateng . With it he publicly presented the former chairman of the AfD parliamentary group, Alexander Gauland . Gauland had previously claimed that people liked Boateng as a football player, but didn't want him as a neighbor. Petke said: "I am embarrassed to sit in parliament with Gauland." Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke found words of praise for Petke's appearance.
