Sven Reichardt

Sven Reichardt (born June 30, 1967 in Bremen ) is a German historian . He has held the professorship for contemporary history at the University of Konstanz since 2011 .

From 1988 to 1995 Reichardt studied history, political science, psychology and Italian at the University of Hamburg and later at the Free University of Berlin . From 1995 to 2000 he did his doctorate on fascist combat alliances. Violence and community in the Italian squadrism and in the German SA at the Free University of Berlin. He developed an explicitly praxeological concept of fascism . The doctoral thesis was received very positively in specialist circles; Stefan Breuer called the comparative study in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung a masterpiece because it succeeded in viewing fascism as a “political phenomenon sui generis”. In 2003 Reichardt received the audience award for the “best historical book” in 2002 by H-Soz-Kult .

From 2003 to 2011 Reichardt taught and researched as a junior professor for contemporary history at the University of Konstanz . From 2007 to 2011 he was a fellow of the Zukunftskolleg at the University of Konstanz and from 2007 to 2009 a member of its board. In addition, he was editor of the journal Sozial.Geschichte (2003-2007), has been co-editor of the yearbook Contributions to the History of National Socialism since 2003 , since 2006 co-editor of the book series Italy in modern times and since 2009 co-editor of the socio-historical journal Geschichte und Gesellschaft . In 2011 he was appointed to the Chair of Contemporary History at the University of Konstanz.

Reichardt's main research interests are the social and cultural history of the Federal Republic, the history of European fascism , dictatorships in comparison, the history of violence in the 19th and 20th centuries, the history of the concept of civil society, and theories and methods in historical studies .
