Sven Thomas

Sven Thomas (born November 8, 1947 in Bad Segeberg ) is a German lawyer and criminal defense attorney .

Life

Sven Thomas studied law at the universities of Münster and Bochum . He did his legal clerkship at the judicial district of the OLG Düsseldorf . In 1978 he was admitted to the Düsseldorf bar and began his legal career at the Wessing law firm. In 1984, the promotion of Doctor of Law with a thesis on a criminal proceedings subject. Today he belongs to the law firm Thomas Deckers Wehnert Elsner in Düsseldorf.

In 1979, Thomas was involved in the criminal investigation of the Herstatt bankruptcy as defense lawyer for Bernhard Graf von der Goltz . This defense was considered a breakthrough in his career. In the 1980s he was active as a public defender in connection with the Flick affair .

He represented Klaus Esser in the Mannesmann trial , Thomas Haffa in 2003 in the EM.TV case and in 2014 Bernie Ecclestone in the proceedings initiated against him for alleged corruption before the Munich I Regional Court . In 2014 he represented the art dealer Helge Achenbach in the criminal proceedings brought against Achenbach and Thomas Middelhoff in the Arcandor trial. In 2016 he represented the porn entrepreneur Fabian Thylmann in criminal tax proceedings that were discontinued in exchange for a monetary issue of five million euros.
