The Swedish Business School (Swedish: Svenska handelshögskolan, "Hanken School of Economics" ) is a triple accredited Finnish business university located in Helsinki and Vasa , Finland . The university was founded as a Swedish-speaking university in 1909 under the name Högre Svenska Handelsläroverket and renamed in 1927. Hanken operates two university facilities, one in Helsinki and one in Vaasa.
Facilities
Hanken serves five different areas in research and teaching: accounting and commercial law, economics, finance and statistics, corporate management and organization, and marketing. The university also operates a language and business communication center.
Teaching
The university currently offers ten different courses in the Swedish-speaking branch.
In the English-language branch, six different two-year master’s programs are currently offered (Business and Management, Corporate Governance, Economics, Finance and Accounting, Intellectual Property Law, General Management).
Hanken offers PhD courses for all major subjects. A PhD program typically lasts between three and four years. About a year is spent on teaching.
The Hanken MBA program is an accredited executive MBA program. The program has four main areas: "Strategy & Leadership", "Service & Solutions", "Strategic Finance & Controlling" and "Processes & Enablers". The program has been AMBA certified since 2008.
As part of the “Hanken & SSE Executive Education” program, Hanken offers tailor-made solutions for corporate and management training. The initiative was founded in 2005 in collaboration with the Stockholm School of Economics.
Student exchange
Hanken has relationships with 105 partner universities. In addition, Hanken is the only Finnish business university that has an obligatory semester abroad in the curriculum in the Swedish-speaking branch. Every year around 100 students go abroad, while Hanken takes in around 150 students. In the German-speaking area of the following partner universities, u. a .: EBS University of Economics and Law, Free University Berlin, Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management, Humboldt University Berlin, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, LMU Munich, University of Mannheim, University of Münster, RWTH Aachen University.

Accreditations
EQUIS
EQUIS The European Quality Improvement System is an international program for the accreditation of European business schools. Hanken received the accreditation in 2000. The accreditation has been renewed several times since then. The accreditation process ensures that Hanken meets the highest standards, both in research and in teaching, in relation to the local economy and as an institution promoting internationalization.
AMBA
Hanken received the AMBA accreditation in 2008 for the Hanken MBA program. The accreditation ensures that Hanken meets the highest standards for MBA programs.
AACSB
Hanken received AACSB accreditation in November 2015 and has since been one of the "Triple Crown" business universities.
Student union
The student association is called “Svenska Handelshögskolans Studentkår” (“SHS”; in English: Student Corps of the Swedish Business School) and was founded in 1909 under the name Kamratföreningen Niord . As a public body, it represents the interests of students vis-à-vis the university. Today the student union consists of about 2000 members.
