The Sweeny Inlet is an ice-covered bay before Bakutis Coast of the West Antarctic Marie Byrd lands . It lies between the Spaulding Peninsula and the Martin Peninsula and marks the one in the southeastern end of the Getz Ice Shelf .
The United States Geological Survey mapped the bay from its own surveys and aerial photographs by the United States Navy from 1959 to 1967. The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named it after Timothy A. Sweeny of the United States Army , officer in charge of the salvage LC-130 aircraft at Dome Charlie during Operation Deep Freeze in 1976.
