Swen Schulz (born March 1, 1968 in Hamburg ) is a German politician ( SPD ). In 2017 he was elected directly to the 19th German Bundestag in the Berlin-Spandau - Charlottenburg Nord constituency.

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1987 in Hamburg, Schulz completed a degree in political science at the Free University of Berlin , which he completed in 1993 with a degree in political science. Then in 1994 he worked for a short time as a research assistant at the MEP Dagmar Roth-Behrendt and in the same year switched to the office of the Bundestag member Wolfgang Behrendt . He then worked from 1998 to 2002 as the editorial director of Bezirksjournal Verlagsgesellschaft mbH, Berlin.

Swen Schulz has three children.

Political party

Schulz joined the SPD as a schoolboy in 1986. From 1998 to 2008 he was chairman of the SPD district association Spandau and a member of the state executive committee of the SPD in Berlin .

MP

From 1998 to 2002 Schulz was a member of the District Assembly of Berlin-Spandau.

Swen Schulz entered the Bundestag in 2002 and 2005 as a directly elected member of the Berlin-Spandau-Charlottenburg Nord constituency . In the Bundestag elections in 2009 and 2013, Swen Schulz was defeated by the CDU's direct candidate, but was able to win back the constituency in the 2017 Bundestag elections.

He has been a member of the German Bundestag since 2002 . From 2005 to 2009 he was spokesman for the Berlin regional group. From 2005 to 2014 he was a member of the executive committee of the SPD parliamentary group , from 2009 to 2013 he was also deputy spokesman for the parliamentary group's working group “Education and Research”. He has been a member of the Budget Committee since 2013, where he is the main rapporteur for education and research.

On October 27, 2011, Swen Schulz, together with MP Peter Danckert, filed a lawsuit with the Federal Constitutional Court against the procedure for the Euro rescue fund (EFSF) and the establishment of a nine-member special committee which, in urgent cases, should independently approve EFSF aid and thus Parliament bypassed and prevented the participation of all MPs. On October 28, 2011, the court granted an application for a temporary injunction and stopped the establishment of the special body.

Social Commitment

Swen Schulz is Deputy Chairman of the AWO Landesverband Berlin eV and a member of the Humanist Association Berlin-Brandenburg .
