Since 1998 Danckert was a member of the German Bundestag . Since 2002 he has been the spokesman for the Brandenburg regional group in the SPD parliamentary group . He was a member of the European Union Sub-Committee and the Committee on Budgets. From 2005 to 2009 he was chairman of the sports committee.

In the 2005 Bundestag election he received 42.8% of the first votes . On July 4, 2008, it was set up by the constituency conference for a new candidacy in the constituency in the 2009 federal election. On August 15, 2008, an interview with Danckert appeared on capital.de under the title Politicians must be present at such events . With a view to the unclear legal situation in the field of hospitality at sporting events, here specifically the invitation of politicians to major events, Danckert called for the creation of a legal situation that exempts politicians from possible allegations of bribery when accepting invitations to sports and cultural events.

On October 27, 2011, Danckert, together with the MP Swen Schulz, filed a lawsuit with the Federal Constitutional Court against the procedure for the euro rescue package (EFSF) and the establishment of a nine-member special committee which, in urgent cases, was to independently approve EFSF aid and thus bypass parliament and prevented the participation of all MPs. On October 28, 2011, the court granted an application for a temporary injunction and stopped the establishment of the special body.

Danckert did not run in the 2013 federal election .

Outside employment

In addition to his work as a member of parliament, Danckert continues to work as a lawyer and notary. In addition, he is involved in voluntary work, including a. In October 2005, a new regulation of the Members' Act came into force. In order to make the dependencies of the representatives of the people transparent for the electorate, § 44a, including the associated rules of conduct, now stipulates that parliamentarians must disclose all secondary activities and the amount of income generated from them to the general public. Together with eight other MPs from the ranks of the Union and the FDP, Danckert sued the Federal Constitutional Court against this regulation without success.

Since 1998 Danckert has been managing director of a horse farm in Großbeeren in his constituency . Although he was obliged to disclose additional income, he did not register this additional activity. In July 2007, the "Spiegel" reported on it, whereupon it agreed to make up for this disclosure.

Danckert is a member of the supervisory board of the football club Hertha BSC , together with Bernd Schiphorst (chairman, previously club president of Hertha BSC from 2000 to 2008), Heinz Warneke (deputy chairman), Wilhelm Hennig and Torsten-Jörn Klein (member of the board of Gruner + Jahr and Head of G + J International).

Until 2006, Danckert was a member of the supervisory board of Marseille-Kliniken AG and WMP Eurocom AG, a political and media consultancy that hit the headlines in 2003/04 because of the so-called “PR consultant affair” of the Federal Employment Agency . In addition to former top politicians and economic consultants, the founder of the Marseille-Kliniken, Ulrich Marseille, also sits on the WMP Supervisory Board .

On May 14, 2009 sueddeutsche.de reported in connection with a possible legal scandal involving the meat companies Vion and Tönnies of Danckert's involvement in the handing over of documents and accusations of a former employee convicted of breach of trust to a public prosecutor . According to the Süddeutscher Zeitung , the documents that led to a complaint had previously been manipulated by another public prosecutor. Danckert was chairman of the supervisory board of Moksel AG, which was taken over by Vion .
