Swinging with the Finkels (alternative title: Swinging with the Finkels - boredom was yesterday! ) Is a comedy by director Jonathan Newman from 2010 with Martin Freeman and Mandy Moore in the leading roles.

action

The fashion designer Ellie and the architect Alvin have been married for nine years, but the love life between the two is no longer going as expected. The two therefore seek advice from friends in order to regain momentum in their relationship. But none of the tips work. A gay friend of Ellie finally advises her to try swinging , which she suggests to Alvin.

After a series of conversations, they find the seemingly suitable couple to swap partners. During an evening together, the couples get closer and it looks like Ellie and Alvin will each agree to the swap.

However, the hoped-for revival of the marriage of the two does not materialize. Ellie and Alvin fight because, among other things, Alvin is not interested in Ellie preparing an important fashion show . They decide to split up for a while, and Alvin temporarily moves in with a friend.

Realizing that the fashion show means a lot to Ellie, Alvin visits it. He hopes to get closer to Ellie there, but gets lost in the crowd. Mutual friends plan to bring the two back together for a New Year's Eve party. However, Alvin is stopped and is late. He narrowly misses Ellie, who was waiting for him. However, she returns. It finally comes to a discussion between the two and they realize that they love each other and want to stay together.

Ellie gives Alvin a pair of children's shoes to tell him that she is pregnant. Alvin is briefly unsure whether the child is actually from him and not from the exchange partner. Ellie can reassure him, however, because as they are only now realizing, both got cold feet on the night of the swap and each did not accept the swap.

criticism

“The bottom line is that “ Swinging with the Finkels - boredom was yesterday! ” Is a nice, sometimes very rough comedy with a romantic touch. Not more but also not less."

- Thomas Ays, Moviesection.de

"Despite the frivolous topic, a rather harmless film that wants to be understood as a farce on modern marriage and its challenges, but which lacks the necessary satirical sharpness."
