Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada

Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada (2007)

Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada (born June 12, 1923 in Burhanpur , British India , † June 2, 2017 in Karachi , Pakistan ) was a Pakistani lawyer , civil servant and politician . He was attorney general, foreign minister and justice minister in his country.

Syed Sharifuddin Pirzada was a barrister at Lincoln's Inn and graduated from the University of Mumbai with a law degree .

He represented Pakistan at a number of international conferences.

Pakistani government

Pirzada was the Pakistani Attorney General from 1965 to 1966, May 1968 to December 1971, and July 1977 to December 1984 . He was both the youngest and longest serving officer in the post.

Between his tenures as Attorney General, he was Foreign Minister of Pakistan from July 20, 1966 to May 25, 1968 .

From 1979 to 1985 he was Minister of Justice.

From 1999 to 2008 he was a member of the National Security Council of Pakistan.

Islam

Pirzada was General Secretary of the Organization for Islamic Cooperation from 1985 to 1988.

United Nations

Pirzada was a member of the International Law Commission from 1981 to 1986 .

In 1995 he was chairman of the Pakistani delegation to the UN Commission on Human Rights .

At the International Court of Justice , he was selected as an ad hoc judge in one case by his home country.

Awards

Pirzade received the Nishan-e-Imtiaz , Pakistan's highest civilian honor.
