history

Since 1690 the Jewish population of Wächtersbach held their services in private houses. The Jewish community acquired mid-18th century an annex of the castle , where they the synagogue instituted, the school and the teacher's house. The Jewish community of Wächtersbach , consisting of eleven families, decided to build a new synagogue in 1878, which was inaugurated in 1895. In 1910 the Jewish community center with school, teacher's apartment and bathroom ( mikveh ) was added to the east.

The synagogue was sold a few months before the so-called Reichspogromnacht in 1938. After various other uses, there are now offices in the building.
