Syvash ( Ukrainian Сиваш ; Russian Sivash ) is a settlement on the peninsula Chonhar Peninsula middle of the Syvash with about 250 residents.
The settlement Sywasch is located in the south of the Ukrainian Oblast Kherson on the southern tip of the Chonhar peninsula on the border with the Autonomous Republic of Crimea . The settlement with an area of 4,082 km² was founded in 1874 in connection with the construction of a railway line and administratively belongs to the district council of Tschonhar . It is located about 230 km southeast of the Oblast capital Cherson and 50 km southwest of the district center Henitschesk conveniently on the railway line Sevastopol – Kharkiv , which leads behind the village over a bridge to the Crimea. After Russia annexed Crimea in 2014, rail traffic between the mainland and Crimea was severely restricted. Rail traffic between the Solone Osero stop ( Солоне Озеро , km 189) and Novooleksijiwka ( Новоолексіївка , km 230) is currently completely idle .
