Tschonhar ( Ukrainian Чонгар ; Russian Tschongar ) is a village in the south of the Ukrainian Oblast Kherson on the border with the Autonomous Republic of Crimea with about 1,400 inhabitants.
Tschonhar was founded in 1922 and is the center of the district council of the same name. The village has an area of 2.1 km² and is located about 215 km southeast of the oblast capital Kherson and 37 km southwest of the Henichesk district center . Tschonhar is conveniently located on the Tschonhar peninsula in the middle of the Sywasch on the Sevastopol – Kharkiv railway and the M 18 / E 105 highway .
Since the Crimean crisis, the Chonhar checkpoint has been located south of the town , via which traffic on the M 18 highway to and from the Crimea is controlled.
