Szczerbice ( German : Sczyrbitz ) is a village in the rural municipality Gaszowice (Gaschowitz) in the powiat Rybnicki . The place is located in the Silesian Voivodeship in southern Poland about 22 kilometers from the Czech border. Szczerbice has around 2,000 inhabitants and an area of 4.05 km². The next larger town, the district town of Rybnik , is about four kilometers to the east. Szczerbice is located at an altitude of 260 meters above sea level.
history
The place Szczerbice is mentioned for the first time in a document in 1410. It has had many names throughout history. Until 1679 it was largely known under the name Szierbic , until 1743 under the Germanized names Sczirbitz and Scerbitz , until Sczyrbitz prevailed. After the referendum in Upper Silesia , the place fell to Poland in 1922 and has been called Szczerbice since then, with the exception of the duration of the occupation in World War II. Szczerbice was merged with Solarnia.
