action

Olga grew up in a children's home in Sverdlovsk . Two years ago, when she came of age, she received her passport and thus she was also able to find out why she had to spend her childhood in the home. In a letter on the posting, her mother wrote that her father is such a difficult person that it would be better if Olga came to see other people. She received this letter two years ago. She is now no longer in the children's home, is studying at a technical vocational school, receives a scholarship and also works at a medical institute.

Olga has now arrived in Moscow to look for her mother at the address given in the letter. She ends up in the family of a capital city intellectual, which includes a likeable woman, a maddened and embittered man, because he was unsuccessful, and two cocky spoiled daughters. It very quickly turns out that the woman visited is not her mother, although the name and address are correct. Olga says goodbye again, but leaves the cake that she brought with her, which is eaten immediately by the two daughters Anja and Galja. Jelena Wassiljewa has now become curious and, on the advice of her husband Vadim, she brings Olga back to find out more. She tells that her mother was working as a foster sister and Jelena remembered that one of them called Lyolje Wassiljewa had looked after her husband during an illness. Later she gave this address, also in other contexts, in order not to be discovered.

With Olga's honest and open manner, who knows no half measures and who says what she thinks, she quickly becomes a burden for the entire family. This openness also helps the couple to find themselves again after initial displeasure. Anja and Galja are also partially opened their eyes after talking to her. Jelena Wassiljewa tells Olga that she is no longer welcome. But you promise to write and she goes back to her boarding school in Sverdlovsk. During a visit to her former children's home, she, ashamed, tells everyone that she has found her mother and will move in with her.

After several weeks she received a letter from Jelena Wassiljewa in which it was written that her husband Vadim had researched the address of her supposed mother. She now lives in Toropez and is a foster sister in the local hospital. However, she has a weakness for alcoholic beverages. Olga buys a cake and drives to her.

criticism

Manfred Heidicke said in the Berliner Zeitung that the film unobtrusively, but precisely in the observation of people, pursues the question: What does happiness and personal fulfillment mean? The people he introduces are not ideal figures without blame and blame, but they are looking for a way to find their place in socialist society. A quiet, poetic, even humorous film.

The lexicon of international films described the film as an artistically interesting film with a challenging topic.
