T4 - Hartheim 1 is a documentary by Egon Humer , Andreas Gruber and Johanna Neuhauser from 1988, which deals with the Hartheim killing center (near Linz ), in which physically and mentally disabled people, Jews and prisoners of war were killed between 1940 and 1945.

content

The documentation, which is subtitled “Dying and Living in the Castle”, deals with the killing of over 30,000 people at one of the largest Nazi euthanasia institutions. Statements by the deputy camp doctor Georg Renno and the cremator Vinzenz Nohel are cited as well as the reactions of relatives of the victims.

The memory of this time is contrasted with the everyday life of residents of the palace from the 1980s, who decades later had their personal center of life in the same place. The interviewees report on taking possession of the building, the construction work carried out, their personal situation and their own view of the past. The tension between "once" and "now" becomes clear.

Publication on DVD

The film was published in the edition Der Österreichische Film of the newspaper Der Standard (No. 193).
