The TCDD series HT80000 is a series of eight-part high - speed trains operated by the Turkish State Railways (TCDD). The manufacturer Siemens , on whose Velaro platform the multiple unit is based, calls it the Velaro TR ( TR for Turkey ).

history

In June 2013 it was announced that Siemens had received an order for seven high-speed trains from the Turkish State Railways . The order value is around 285 million euros . The order includes up to seven years of maintenance (including spare parts) and the delivery of a driving simulator. The eight-car multiple units run on the Ankara – Istanbul and Ankara – Konya high-speed lines . The order was divided into six passenger trains and a measuring train. While the passenger trains were delivered from 2015 onwards, a multiple unit originally built for Deutsche Bahn was transferred to Turkey as a measuring train (HT80001) at the end of September 2013 .

The first Velaro TR was put into operation by TCDD on May 23, 2015 and runs six times a day between Ankara and Konya. According to other information, the delivery began in January 2016.

In April 2018, TCDD placed an order for a further ten eight-car trains, which correspond to the ones previously used. The contract volume, which includes three years of maintenance, repair and cleaning in addition to the trains, amounts to around 340 million euros. The order had already been announced in February 2015, which means that production in Krefeld would have continued without interruption. However, it was put on hold after a competitor objected to the award decision. The first multiple unit of the second series (HT 80107) was delivered in November 2019.

On December 13, 2018, in the Marşandiz railway accident, the HT80101 multiple unit with 206 passengers and a speed of around 80 to 90 km / h collided with a stationary locomotive at Marşandiz station in Ankara . Nine people died and 34 were seriously injured.
