TIV (or "TIV - True Image Vision" or "TIV - Der sexy Sender" ) was a private, commercial Austrian television broadcaster in Vienna . The station could be received in 1998 as IPTV , from 1999 to 2001 in the cable network of UPC Telekabel and was discontinued at the end of 2001. TIV was a forerunner of the music channel Gotv and the non-commercial television channel Okto .

history

TIV was founded by the media artist Axel Stockburger , the artist Alf Altendorf and the musician Thomas Madersbacher (both later managing directors) in 1996 in Vienna.

In 1997, the federal curator Lioba Reddeker made part of the start-up funding available from federal funding for culture. Most of the investments came from private funds. The location was the former Alpine milk headquarters in Wieden .

In 1998 TIV went on air with regular broadcasts as IPTV on the Internet. In terms of content, the station was supported by moderators and producers from Falter and FM4 and by the Viennese culture and music scene.

On May 1, 1999, broadcasting began as a one-hour daily broadcast on the UPC's information channel .

In 2000 the station was expanded to a daily two-hour program. An expansion to full format was planned, but was no longer implemented.

At the end of 2001, after parts of the founders left the company, the station was shut down. At the beginning of 2002 it went back on the air as Gotv with new investors and a new concept from Thomas Madersbacher .

From 2002 co-founders of TIV like Amina Handke and Alf Altendorf were involved in the conception of the Viennese community TV Okto and the Salzburg free television FS1 . A large number of former producers of TIV such as Robert Stachel ( Maschek ) are still active for the Viennese public television .

TIV produced seven daily changing, one-hour formats ("focal points"), which were produced by changing editorial teams. In 2000, more than 100 employees worked part-time for TIV.

The collective monochrom around Johannes Grenzfurthner produced short films for the station every week. This continuous way of working formed the basis for the group's film production, which continues to this day. A selection of the best films from the TIV era was presented at Diagonale in 2000 .
