The TV Espelkamp-Mittwald is a tennis club from Espelkamp in East Westphalia .

history

The Espelkamp-Mittwald tennis club was founded on April 13, 1956. Wilhelm Harting , founder of the Harting Technology Group , leased an unused site in Espelkamp to build a tennis facility there. Harting became the first chairman of the young club, but died unexpectedly in 1962. He was succeeded by his wife Maria, who held this office for eleven years. She was replaced by her son Jürgen, whose term of office ended in the same year due to a tragic accident. Various chairmen followed him, but they no longer came from the Harting family. The current official is Hadi Hashemi.

In 1997 a support program was launched that ensured that Espelkamp was able to sign foreign players for the first time from 1998. This was accompanied by the athletic advancement of the men's team, which rose to the association league in 1999. A tennis and badminton center opened in 2000, and renovation work began two years later. In the early 2000s, the women's team also experienced a sporting boom. In 2003 the men achieved their greatest sporting success to date and were promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. In the 2004 season Espelkamp was surprisingly second, but for financial reasons waived the promotion.

In 2008, at the end of the season, the men's team took first place in the 2nd Bundesliga North and was promoted to the Bundesliga. However, the 2009 season ended with just one victory in the bottom of the table, which is why it has been back in the now single-track 2nd division since 2010.

In 2013, eight men's, two women's and eight youth teams were registered. Since the expansion started in 2005, the facility has eight open spaces with sand covering. The number of members in 2013 was around 250 to 285 people. It has therefore decreased slightly in recent years.
