TVmatrix was founded in 1998. The page has not been updated since May 2011. In April 2012, the offer was completely removed from the network.

The site was produced by a young team with employees from all three countries and addressed interested TV viewers as well as those working in the industry . Several different magazine series such as background reports, interviews, columns, etc.

history

In 1998, a protest movement against changes to the broadcasting of the Simpsons on ProSieben resulted in the website ContraSieben. It finally generated so much pressure that at the beginning of October 1998 the Munich private broadcaster had the project employees flown in to a conference and changed the broadcast again (special credits have been shown since then, the censorship or the restraint of some episodes was ended and the advertising was placed within one Black screen). There were a number of other protests against other broadcasters, which ultimately resulted in ContraSieben's offering being expanded.

In September 1999 the project was renamed TVmania, which from then on was supposed to report neutrally on German television. The introduction of a discussion forum resulted in the long-term loyalty of the visitors to the TVmania. From March 2000, the news was to move further into the center of the site, at the same time columns and background reports were introduced and the offer could be extended to the entire German-speaking area of Europe by Austrian and Swiss employees.

From November 2000, TVmania and the Internet platform boardy.de , whose creators expected the cooperation to quickly become known on the Internet, cooperated with each other. The TVmania team then switched to the new tvboardy.de project (TVmania was now a protected brand). After a few problems, however, the former founder of TVmania, Tobias Book, wanted to create an independent media portal again and founded tvMatrix in July 2001 (including the corresponding domain).

The cooperation between the team from TVmania and tvMatrix and boardy.de continued until 2002. A separate internet forum was set up from mid-February 2002, which was an important pillar of TVmatrix until the site was closed. After a few months, founder Tobias Book left tvMatrix for good and was replaced by Andreas Kräuter, since then the Austrian has been the publisher of the media portal and editor-in-chief.

In July 2003, with the launch of the domains tvmatrix.at and tvmatrix.ch, a new design went online. Since then, the media portal has been called TVmatrix. The offer was supported by columns (e.g. in cooperation with Michael Koslar (former presenter on VOX and tm3 ), Natalie Langer (former Big Brother resident and former presenter on 9live ), Thomas Bug (presenter of WDR ), Axel Dürr (press spokesman der KabelBW ) or comedian Simon Gosejohann ( comedystreet , ProSieben)) as well as reports and interviews added. The magazine presented its visitors with another well-established media column with "Durchschaut!" to disposal.

Since mid-May 2007, TVmatrix has been supplying the teletexts of the television stations Tele 5 , RTL Shop and rheinmaintv and, since August 2003, the teletext portal of the Austrian private broadcaster ATV with current media reports. Since mid-April 2008, this cooperation with PMS-Interactive has been expanded to include a further TV station, both in terms of teletexts and with DMAX .

In mid-February 2008, the offer was expanded to include a cinema area. By working closely with the cinema chain CinemaxX be as cinema news , charts, as offered and -kolumnen.

TVmatrix has been marketed by the online marketer QUARTER MEDIA since April 2008 . The media expert Borris Brandt wrote a media column for TVmatrix since July 2010. In addition, a monthly TV sports column by sports journalist Christian Sprenger has been offered since August 2010. In addition, the entertainment magazine has expanded its range to include the interview series "TVIP - Der Talk".

On May 16, 2011, TVmatrix closed its service. The internet address has been linked to a Facebook page since spring 2012. Although it was announced in 2011 that the site would be redesigned and relaunched, currently (end of May 2018) there is still no sign of it. A resumption of operations is no longer expected, since it has now been taken completely offline.

Trivia

  • Due to a warning from the website call-in-tv.de by the call-in producer Callactive, the media magazine TVmatrix again solidarized from August to November 2007 with the opponent of call-in formats and reduced its reporting on the US television company Viacom , its German subsidiary MTV Networks Germany , the broadcasters MTV , VIVA , NICK and Comedy Central , which are operated in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and the former owner Callactives Endemol .
  • Thanks to a cooperation with the Munich feature film broadcaster Tele 5 , visitors to the portal's Oscar ceremony in February 2008 had the opportunity to vote for their desired film, which they could see on the broadcaster's program on February 24th.
