TYPO Berlin

TYPO Berlin is a European design conference that has been meeting in the Berlin House of World Cultures since 1995 . With around 60 speakers and 1,600 participants, TYPO Berlin was one of the largest annual conferences for designers and communication experts in Europe. The conference has an annual focus on the latest developments and trends in the areas of branding and corporate design, typography and font engineering as well as graphic design and media design. Some topics in the last few years were a. Trigger (2018), Wanderlust (2017), Beyond Design (2016), Character (2015), Roots (2014), Touch (2013), Sustain (2012).

The initial ignition of the conference by FontShop , a mail-order company for fonts, took place among other things. The initiator of the first FontShop conference FUSE95 was the British graphic designer and type designer Neville Brody . Since then, leading personalities from the fields of design, branding, media, culture and business have been speaking at the TYPO conferences, including Christoph Amend , Joachim Baldauf , Mirko Borsche , Bazon Brock , David Carson , Fons Hickmann , Sarah Illenberger , Charles Landry , Mario Lombardo , Gesche Joost ,Jim Rakete , Erik Spiekermann , Stefan Sagmeister or Lawrence Wiener .

In 2014, FontShop was taken over by the American company Monotype. The TYPO conferences were still organized by the same team.

In addition to the Berlin conference, two conferences were held in London (since 2011, 2012) and four more in San Francisco (2012 to 2015) under the motto “Design, culture, society - with a little bit of kerning” . Since 2012, the one-day hiking seminar TYPO Day has been a guest at different locations several times a year. The Brand Talks and Brand Days events were new since 2017 . With the Brand Talks , TYPO Berlin brings brands and agencies to the stage together. Renowned agencies - including Pentagram , Strichpunkt , Fjord, Peter Schmidt Group, KMS Team, Mutabor, Fuenfwerken and Olapic - gave exclusive insights on current rebrandings and digital campaigns together with their clients.

TYPO Berlin will be canceled in 2019.
