Coordinates: 16 ° 59 ′  S , 145 ° 23 ′  E The Tablelands Region is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Queensland . The area is 11,281 km² and has about 25,000 inhabitants.

geography

The region is located in the north of the state in the south of the Cape York Peninsula about 1400 km north of the capital Brisbane and about 40 km west of Cairns .

The administrative seat of the LGA is Mareeba with around 10,200 inhabitants. The region includes the following districts and villages: Almaden, Amber, Arriga, Atherton , Barrine, Barwidgi, Beatrice, Bellevue, Biboohra, Bolwarra, Butchers Creek, Carrington, Chewko, Chillagoe , Crystalbrook, Danbulla, Desailly, Dimbulah, East Barron, Ellinjaa, Evelyn, Forty Mile, Fossilbrook, Gadgarra, Gamboola, Glen Allyn, Glen Russell, Glen Ruth, Groganville, Gunnawarra, Herberton, Hurricane, Innot Hot Springs, Irvinebank, Jaggan, Julatten, Kaban, Kairi, Kalunga, Kirrama, Koah, Koombooloomba, Kuranda , Kureen, Lake Barrine, Lake Eacham, Lake Tinaroo, Lyndside, Maalan, Malanda , Mareeba, Middlebrook, Millaa Millaa , Millstream, Minbun, Minnamoolka, Mona Mona, Moomin, Moregatta, Mount Carbine, Mount Garnet, Mount Molloy, Mount Mulligan , Munderra, Mungalli, North Johnstone, Nychum, Paddys Green, Palmerston, Peeramon, Petford, Ravenshoe , Silver Valley, Southedge, Speewah, Springfield, Tarzali, Thornborough, Tinaroo, Tolga, Topaz, Tumoulin, Upper Barron, Wairuna, Walkamin, Watsonvill e, Wondecla, Wongabel, Wrotham and Yungaburra .

history

Today's Tablelands Region was created in 2008 from the four Shires Atherton , Eacham , Herberton and Mareeba .

administration

The Tablelands Regional Council has nine members. Eight councilors are elected by residents of the eight divisions (constituencies). The council chairman and mayor (mayor) is also elected by all residents of the region.
