Tadeusz Ważewski

Tadeusz Ważewski (born September 24, 1896 in Chortkiw in Galicia , Austria-Hungary , † September 5, 1972 in Rabka-Zdrój ) was a Polish mathematician at the Cracow School of Mathematicians . His work focused on ordinary differential equation , partial differential equation , set theory and topology .

Ważewski first studied physics at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow before switching to mathematics thanks to Prof. Stanisław Zaremba . He received his doctorate in Paris and completed his habilitation in Kraków in 1927. During the Second World War he was deported by the German occupying forces to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp , where he was imprisoned for two years and survived.
