Tagino (also: Tegno, Dagino, Dago, Dagan, Tagamo ; * in Dollnhofen near Regensburg ; † June 9, 1012 in Rothenburg an der Saale ) was Archbishop of Magdeburg from 1004 to 1012 .

Life

Tagino came from Bavaria and was a student of Wolfgang von Regensburg . Originally he was supposed to be his successor as Bishop of Regensburg , but could not get the confirmation of the emperor . Thereupon he moved to the court of King Henry II and became his court chaplain . At Heinrich's request, Tagino was made Archbishop of Magdeburg in 1004 . Among other things, he helped the king restore the diocese of Merseburg in the same year . The bishop of Halberstadt , who represented the temporarily extinct bishopric until then, was compensated with large estates.

He repeatedly stood by the ruler in diplomatic matters. In Poznan he negotiated the peace treaty between Heinrich II and Bolesław I of Poland in 1005 . He was also involved in founding the diocese of Bamberg . He also expanded the cathedral in Magdeburg and built a crypt there, which he consecrated in 1008. He is also said to have introduced the Mauritius Festival in his diocese . He acquired other goods for his archbishopric . In 1011 he accompanied Heinrich on the third campaign against Bolesław. When he returned to Merseburg, he fell seriously ill. He was then brought to Rothenburg via Burg Giebichenstein , where he finally died. His body was transferred to Magdeburg and buried in the cathedral.
